What is a USDOT Number?
 
A US DOT Number is assigned by the United States Department of Transportation and is used by various government agencies to identify a motor carrier.
 
Who needs a USDOT Number?
 
  • Companies that operate commercial vehicles transporting passengers or hauling cargo in interstate commerce
  • Companies that operate commercial vehicles transporting passengers or hauling cargo in intrastate commerce or commercial vehicle registrants in the following states:
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
