What is a USDOT Number?
A US DOT Number is assigned by the United States Department of Transportation and is used by various government agencies to identify a motor carrier.
Who needs a USDOT Number?
- Companies that operate commercial vehicles transporting passengers or hauling cargo in interstate commerce
- Companies that operate commercial vehicles transporting passengers or hauling cargo in intrastate commerce or commercial vehicle registrants in the following states:
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
**Notice** Interstate For-Hire Carriers will also need an MC number in order to operate crossing state lines for compensation. Please check out our Interstate Authority Packages which include both the USDOT Number and MC Number.
